Directories can help us build a picture of what an area or street from the past would have looked like. You can find lists of people who lived and worked on the streets you know in times gone by. Maybe you will find out who lived in your house.

See where it all began for Manchester. This original charter from 1301 is Manchester’s oldest and most important official document. Written in Latin, it sets out how courts and markets, taxation and debt worked in medieval Manchester.
