Who is this event for?
Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia that anybody can edit and add to. This is a free event which will help you get started on Wikipedia, edit existing articles and start your own articles.
What will I learn?
The session will cover:
- Introduction to Wikipedia
- What you ned to know about conflicts of interest and referencing sources
- How to edit and add articles
Once you know the basics you can start to edit articles you're interested in. Friendly archives and library staff will be on hand to help you identify sources to use in your articles.
What do I need to do before the event?
Sign up for a Wikipedia account (unless you have one already, of course). When given the option, please enter your email address (it's always hidden, and you can turn off the ability for people to send you messages; but giving an address means you can recover lost passwords). The account name may be pseudonymous, but is personal to the individual, not their job, so not "Arcadia Librarian", or suchlike. It only takes a minute.
